How do you receive tax deduction for your Dutch home mortgage monthly?

You have bought a house in the Netherlands and you are eligible for the tax deduction scheme or hypotheekrenteaftrek and you would like to receive this deduction monthly as this helps to reduce your monthly expenses. The good news is that this is definitely possible and can be done through submitting you request for provisional assessment or voorlopige aanslag on Mijn Belastingdienst website. There are four steps you need to follow:

1. Prepare your documents

Make sure you have these information at hands:

  • Personal information: DigiD, BSN, IBAN, income information
  • Income information for both you and your partner
  • Bank and investment accounts: bank, savings, investment accounts
  • Housing: the house’s value or WOZ-waarde, information on your mortgage or loan (i.e., closing commission, transfer tax, advice costs, agency costs, appraisal cost, notary expenses for mortgage or loan and notary expenses for the house)
  • Deductable expenses: your gifts, care cost, and to be paid spousal support payment
  • General information such as estimation to the amount of your mortgage or loan at the end of the provisional assessment year and disability insurance that you pay

2. Log in to Mijn Belastingdienst website

Use your DigiD account, go to Inkomstenbelasting > Voorlopige aanslag and apply for voorlopige aanslag

3. Fill in all the information requested

4. Sign and send the request. You should hear back from tax authority within 4 weeks or if it is longer, the the response will always come within 8 weeks
